So I've left a bit earlier, I have, because of - 7 Apr 2026 - (1,700 words) - Jaynes Baby Bank
So I've left a bit earlier, I have, because of the traffic and he was dead.
So Caerphilly is shut.
But of course it's school holidays, didn't think.
So I haven't got so much traffic.
That's the trouble with me, with Caerphilly now, is I get... I hit the traffic.
So I could do with somebody from Caerphilly running Caerphilly shop, because coming in and in the morning I hit the traffic and going home.
And I got two bottlenecks here.
I got this one by here and then I got lambradic bottleneck.
So I got to try and bomb home from here, get through this bottleneck.
Otherwise I'm stuck in two.
And that can add up to nearly an hour on my journey, especially if it's been a car accident.
I was there nearly two hours once, because there was a car accident.
So I really need somebody from Caerphilly to run Caerphilly, that can just nip over to their house or whatever, you know.
The works is going in Breca.
And I think they've closed on the High Street.
I think they are winding their operation down.
They haven't posted anything about it other than they're shutting down online.
But somebody posted about the work shutting down, because they're asking $2,500 for their shopping Breca.
$2,500 a month.
It's like you're having a laugh.
Like you're gonna... let me tell you something now, right?
You're gonna be lucky to get $2,500 a year before long, right?
You know, because you're pricing yourselves at the market now.
And if somebody like the works, I mean they're a discount bookshop, and they sell really good stuff.
They sell craft stuff, stationery.
They sell stuff that people need.
Physical stuff that people need, as well as books.
If they can't afford it, who's gonna afford it, like, you know?
It's just city-like, innit?
So...
So yeah, so usually I'm bombing across here before I hit the bottleneck.
But of course it's half-term, innit?
So, that's what we need now, is something to run the shops and risker.
They're only little.
We need to get volunteers to run them ones.
And...
We need to concentrate on the bigger ones, which have got more restrictions on them.
Like the warehouse will have more restrictions, innit?
Health and safety-wise.
So, we're on-site, so to say.
Oh, I sadly wasted another shop.
I think it was nearly 1,800 a month.
Tiny, tiny little shop.
Upstairs and downstairs.
On the mumbles!
Oh, I said to my mom, look at that!
I mean, I'd never pay that.
Never pay that for a shop.
Blackwood was pledging, to be honest.
With their prices.
Erm...
But yeah, I said to my mother, that would be nice, wouldn't it?
Have a little shop down there.
And then upstairs, then, you could have like a little flat bit.
Because it looks like a flat upstairs.
Because there's like a bath up there and stuff.
So, I dunno.
And we could say to the volunteers, if you're good, you can go down to the mumbles, stay in the shop above it.
Because it's got like a little flat.
And, er, as long as you open up, like, a couple of hours a day, then you're going to have a free holiday down there.
That'd be cool.
Erm, that'd be lush when they're going across there.
Because you take the kids' bikes down there across the mumbles.
I love the mumbles.
Erm...
But you see, the thing is, that would be seasonal.
Because you wouldn't get so many people in in the winter.
Would you?
You know?
That would be lovely, that one just down by there.
It was by the tennis courts.
So, it's not far down from the little park and the tennis courts.
It was in a good location opposite the pharmacy, so it was good.
And by a little village shop.
You could do a bit further down, I gotta be honest.
Because you need it on that roundabout where you turn up and all the little shops are the gift shops.
But, er, it was nice by there.
I could do one by there, definitely.
I could sit by there with my deck chair at the front in the sun.
Erm...
So, yeah, I got a pile full of donations.
Guys, beautiful clothes.
I need somebody to put them on vintage or technical car boots.
I mean, they're lovely.
I mean, you have a shop to charge anything from £3 up, but we're literally at £3.
Because we've got so many.
Erm...
And I found a couple of warehouses in Caerphilly.
Usually by year now I'm backing up, look.
And the worst bit is Lambraddack.
For me.
Let's have a look.
I'm usually bombing down by year to get through this bottleneck.
Because sometimes it can be backed right up there.
I usually gotta stop.
This is where I gotta stop.
But obviously the kids are in school, so there's no traffic.
So tomorrow same now.
Hopefully we'll be open by about ten tomorrow.
I think we have got something to do in the morning.
Hopefully we can get that done.
And then I might sell off the furniture a bit cheaper so I can get at least I can manoeuvre round that shop.
Because I can't manoeuvre round it at the moment to do what I want to do.
But I can see it coming into shape Right now in Pontypool.
It's looking a lot better now with the extra shelves in it.
No, not Pontypool, sorry Cuffiddy.
That's cool.
It's so warm out the front there.
Now even with risk, as you can see, it's shadowed.
So there's not a lot of sun on the front of the shop.
It's so warm out the front there now.
It's like a different place, you know.
It really is.
So I wonder if I get my spray in done tonight.
You've got to spray in hot weather.
My father told me I had to spray.
But I got things like butterflies and things on my fence got a bit rusty.
So I thought I'll do them.
Oh and my neighbour was knocking this morning.
I don't know why.
She don't usually knock my door.
So I'd better see what she wants.
I don't know.
Lazy spa weather in it.
Lazy spa.
It's still too cold for me.
I think I'd need it piping hot if I was in the water.
I really would.
I really would.
It's still too cold.
This is now when I'm stopped.
I think this is where they're putting the McDonald's in.
I don't know.
Are they going to get rid of this slot by here?
I don't know.
I think that's where it's going.
Unless it's going in our field.
I don't know.
Be good with it.
That car place is always selling out.
Always selling out and then reopening every couple of months.
That would be good.
Because it's got a big airport and all the rest of it.
You can pull in and park there or pull up.
Get your car washed.
Do a bit of shopping.
And then come out.
So it's been a pleasure to drive home tonight.
And thank you to my volunteer for coming in.
Dan really needs volunteers because he's got so much to sort out now.
We've got to get all the games and the jigsaws.
Get them out.
Because I can get a volunteer on them.
I've got a couple of volunteers that work from home.
And I can get them straight on it and they can start working the jobs.
It's done then, isn't it?
We've got to empty it more to get that work done.
Otherwise we're not going to get the workmen in there.
What we might have to do is swap sides when we've got the workmen in there.
So, I don't know guys.
We'll have to see.
But that's the good thing about it.
We've got that option to swap sides.
So, that's always good.
So, Daniel will be in that back room where the castle is.
So he's going to be in there.
So he can't see if he's coming in and he can't hear.
So he's in there trying to sort out what we've got in there.
So we can open that back up.
There's been no leaks in there.
So...
Oh, a little doggy.
Going for a walk.
So, yes.
It's all systems go now.
We need our funding in.
We need funding.
We've got more bodies now to help work with stuff.
And what not.
We've got so much.
I'll probably do two hours now working this stuff by you or something out.
See what it is.
So, yeah.
There we are.
So, sorry if Caerphilly was a mess today, but we were moving stuff around.
I know a few people come over and they were like... I said, yeah, we're moving stuff around.
Especially when I had Dan there on Sunday because he just come in and shoved everything where they needed it.
And I said, leave it.
Off we go fundraising.
And then...
And it's nice sometimes to do something different on a Sunday.
You know, I'd have convinced Daniel to come if I buy him a bacon roll or a cheeseburger or something.
And it's nice then just to chat to people as well.
Everybody recognises the logo and they come over and they chat and they're talking and what have you.
And it's nice to do it.
And then we take the packets and if people want to check the money in, they can, you know.
And we sell bits of jewellery and what have you.
And we come back with some lovely stuff again.
And then we've got to roll out our bins.
Our clothes bins.
I don't want to do the hard bits.
What sort of speeds is this guy doing?
I've come to beat the traffic and he's doing 20 mile an hour everywhere, hasn't he?
I'm going to turn off down here.
So yeah, that's where we're at guys.
So I knew we'd get more volunteers in otherwise.
So we shall see you tomorrow.
So Caerphilly is shut.
But of course it's school holidays, didn't think.
