I give up with the lives in the shop - 17 Dec 2025 - (870 words) - Jaynes Baby Bank
I give up with the lives in the shop.
I can't get any live going.
I find it quiet now on a Wednesday morning.
Everybody seems to go and get their veg from the market and then busier in the afternoon and towards the evening.
I will be gone today, guys, at about 4.30.
I'll be gone.
I'm going to go home and catch up with the cats.
Still having lovely Christmas stuff.
Still got lovely stuff to go out.
Beautiful stuff.
So, I think next year we are going to change the pricing up.
Because 75% is too cheap.
We put a lot of work into what we do.
We don't just open the bags and put a price on it.
A lot of it has got to be cleaned, tidied, sorted.
My mother spent yesterday sorting games out.
There is a lot of work gone into it for us to just slash the So, I think January we will still have the same deals on.
Because 50% is going back up too.
Because we have already got rid of so much from you that it is starting to be new stuff out again now.
Plus I have got some people and organisations coming in tomorrow and Friday to take more stuff again.
So, there will be newer stuff out So, I think we will probably just do the 50% off.
But I am thinking of changing the pricing next year to see how it goes.
Instead of having the percentages off.
Because some people said they struggle with it.
So, instead of putting something up for like £20 and then doing 75% we will put it up for like £8 or £10 and that is what we want for it.
But what we will have to do, because we have already got the pricing.
So, what I was thinking was like these we would probably put up at £3.50 wouldn't we?
These little bunny things.
With the hopes of getting a pound something like that from with one of the discounts.
But instead of writing £3.50 please on them.
If we just do like I don't know £1.50 please on them.
And the date.
Still a date for the staff.
Because you know we still got to give everybody.
Everybody's got to have a fair chance haven't they?
Because the other thing is it's not fair on the volunteers.
They're working their backsides off.
They get 75% discount then somebody can just walk in and get 75% discount.
So I'm kicking myself in the butt really.
By giving the 75% to customers.
So what we'll do guys is we'll just mark every label like that.
And then we know it's like a new label.
Right?
Because it's been underlined.
So we know it's a new label going out.
So there will be no discount on it.
So if one comes through and it's got like a hundred pound.
Say we've got a label and what we've done is we've put a hundred pound please on it.
Right?
Then we know that's old price tags.
Okay?
Well we might know by the date anyway won't we?
But we know that's an old price tag.
And if somebody comes in and they go it's a hundred pound now.
Then if there's no discount you can say let's have a look at the tag.
Say oh no it's been here a while that has.
Or I'll ask probably about 25 quid and do it that way.
So we try that next year with the pricing because a lot of people have said like for me it's easier and it's more justifiable.
Because obviously I've got to give like insurance.
And people auditors and people like that a value of us in each shop.
So I've got say well it's 200,000 pounds worth of stock in here and I would probably sell out under a thousand pound or if I was on 75% you know I'd have less gain wouldn't I?
So for me it's easier to do the percentages but a lot of people are struggling with them.
So shall we just price what we want for it next year.
Take the percentages off.
So no more 50% no more 75% and rest of it and go from there.
So we do that and see if that works better for customers.
Because while it might work better for us, it's the customers inevitably isn't it?
There's a very old saying in business and that's the customers pay your wages.
And while we don't take wages that's our fundraising.
But if somebody comes in and they go oh that's too expensive for me.
And while we're not a charity shop people still see it as a charity shop don't they?
They still view it as a charity shop.
So what do you think guys?
So if we only want like 150 for that just put 150 on it.
If I only want a pound for that I just put a pound on it.
Yeah if I only want two pound for the mop heads put two pound on it.
Let me know what you think guys.
Put your feed back there.
But I know a lot of people have previously said it's the discounts that throw them and put them off of it.
I can't get any live going.
