All the music was still going a minute ago, but - 25 Oct 2025 - (1,335 words) - Jaynes Baby Bank

All the music was still going a minute ago, but I'm not sure if this is it now.
We've finished off now maybe.
There's a sneaky form, people are packing up.
It's been a really good day guys, really good day.
We haven't sold any big things, but everybody's had a good time I think.
It's been lovely.
I might start packing up now.
There we go.
I think that everybody else is packing up.
I might pack up, it's time to get everything in now.
Sold a few things, I'm happy with that.
Dan's had a few sales.
He's got a lady in now, in the jewellery cabinet.
Now we've found the keys.
I'm going to move these out of the way.
The lady walked all the way up with these rocks after I said no, don't move them, she didn't know.
Saw her and her husband, so I was like right, leave them.
I mean they're good books, they'll go football and war books, but try and hang on until after Christmas guys dress.
So anyway, we've had a good day.
Someone from Citizens Advice came in, it's quite sort of high up in Citizens Advice shopping, and they bought some stuff.
Oh my god, you're full.
I'm like, oh yes, always full.
Wouldn't want to be empty.
Some of these charity shops I don't walk around, they're absolutely empty, have you seen them?
Ridiculously empty.
So I said about what we're doing, he said, yeah I know, I refer you to people.
So that's brilliant.
So and he said, I've also told Citizens Advice over here to start referring him to, because we follow you online.
So that's good, isn't it?
There's somebody quite high up from Caerphilly and, well, from the Borough that comes around and speaks, so he's probably like an area manager, comes around and speaks to other people, said to start referring us.
So I explained to him about Moses baskets, and how we fill them, and what we do, and all of this, and how mums can come in and get what they need, you know.
I said the problem we've got is that if they ring, if they go and ask for a food bank voucher, they're getting reported to social services.
I said, so if a man was to have his six allocated food banks a year with a referral system from Citizens Advice Council, anywhere, doctors, whatever, wouldn't get bothered.
But if it's a mother, they get referred to social services straight away.
Which is putting mothers off, but it's also putting mothers in a vulnerable position, that if they need the food, they could start stealing from supermarkets and other places, yeah?
Or other things could go without, couldn't they?
Like heating.
You need the heating on sometimes, you know, guys.
I've had to have the heater on today.
I don't like doing it, but I've had to have it on.
So he's gonna go and he's gonna have a word, because he's also quite instrumental with the Trussell Trust.
So he's gonna go and he's gonna have a word about this reporting to social services if mums are coming in and asking for a food bank.
Now we're not promising that we can change it overnight, because social services have got a job to do, but there should be a buffer that they, you know, you should be able to ask for at least two.
You need at least... it took me ten food banks to get myself in a situation, out of a situation, when I first got ill and got myself back on my feet.
It took me ten food banks, you know?
This is why we started a food bank, because Daniel ate it going to the food bank, so did I ate it going to the food bank, because it was all doom and gloom.
This is why we started it, you know?
We were like, well, what can we do?
And now people can come in and just ask us and we go, yeah, no problem, take that, you know?
And we find this works better.
It's more of an approachable system than going in to see somebody and having to say why you need a food bank.
You wouldn't be asking.
Some people do take the mick, but believe me, you wouldn't be asking.
And that's why we ring-fence it to just mothers, you know?
Because otherwise we'd have every Tom, Dick and Harry in here after stuff.
And we have a few guidelines on ours, but because, you know, you need to be buying or donating to support another mother somewhere down the line.
So if you donate a Moses basket, you're entitled to a pack of puppies, but that Moses basket might go to another mother that can't afford one.
You know, that's the way it goes.
Or we might sell it for two or three quid, because you know the Moses baskets, we don't sell them much over a fiver unless there's a total brand new one in a packet.
And then that will go towards the running costs to keep the shops open, to allow mothers to come in and browse, for us to keep the stock and for mothers to volunteer for their own mental health.
You know, it's a circle, isn't it guys?
But that's really good news today that not only are we being recommended in Wales by a major charity, Citizens Advice, we're also known to the Trussell Trust via a cross, which they know us anyway.
And we're going to take that on board for the mums and see if we can pass it on.
Yes, if somebody's asked for six or more food banks in a year or six months, then maybe yes, social services should be involved.
But then we know a mother that was asking for food banks every week for nuisance.
The one who wanted me to swap the pram for £120 with a nappies or something like that.
I was like, no chance, get out of here.
She wanted to bring a pram in and take £120 with a nappies out.
I was like, no chance, get lost.
She was a nuisance in the end.
I was warned about her, but there we are.
She gets food banks from everywhere every week.
And she is very overweight as well.
So she doesn't need the food as such, you know.
So anyway, her husband actually works in radiology for the NHS.
Okay, so they don't need food banks every week, don't need multiple food banks or multiple charities every week.
Okay, it's different if you're asking for one every month or something like that.
But when you say every week and you go into every charity, you can find, then you're taking the mick.
So yeah, that's really good news that isn't it guys?
Subsequently, we've obviously banned them from using our services.
So yeah, Christmas.
I don't know if I've sold any Christmas today, or I might have.
But this is all basically new stuff now because all the other stuff is sold.
So this is all other stuff now from the bottom of the basket we've got up.
And I think we've probably got what's left in the basket and Sammy took some photos the other day because I don't know if I'll put them back on.
I don't know where all the photographs have gone because I took loads of photographs of the stuff that was boxed because I didn't want the boxes being ripped open.
But I can't seem to find it all now.
But this is all boxed up Christmas that they'll open at the tail to show you written on it what it is, colours.
They'll open it here and then they can seal it back up so it doesn't get all pulled out up there.
Right, so I think I'm going to go and pack up now guys.
