Right, so I'm just doing a food bank check - 11 Sep 2025 - (3,439 words) - Jaynes Baby Bank

Right, so I'm just doing a food bank check.
They've sort of gone over to the third cabinet and I didn't want that.
I want to keep it on these two deep cabinets.
So I'm going through it now because we need to know what we need and we need to check for dates.
So can you do a check in Pontypool this week please?
There's not much in Risca.
We've got to do an all-around shop.
So we need as many donations in as well guys.
10th 26th, 7th 26th.
Right, okay.
So we've got that milk there.
9th 26th.
So 26th is next year.
That's the one we're looking for guys.
22nd of the 10th.
22nd of the 10th.
So what's this one?
13th of the 12th, 26th.
But is that a 26th or 25th?
So that's an older one.
So if you've never worked in a supermarket before, you obviously have your oldest ones at the back.
Let's have a look.
Alright, so these have come in new.
These are all mothers.
We need a tripod.
Anybody got a tripod?
Oh no no no, I'm losing this lid off this one.
I'm trying to do it one-handed.
I don't think my cable is long enough to wedge you.
So you can see what I'm doing.
Oh no, hang on now.
I don't know if you can see.
No, I'll try and hold it.
Right guys, these big tins of milk see.
Right, so I've got those ones on.
So this needs to be done at least once a month guys.
The 12th, 26th.
So you put the longest date at the back.
You're checking tins for 11th of the 2nd, 26th.
So you're checking tins as well for perforations and damage because if you eat, you know, it can cause botulism.
So you've got to be careful.
Okay, 2nd of the 11th, 25th.
So this is coming up 18th of the 11th.
Oh, that's 26th.
So we're okay with that one.
Right, so let's put that one down there because that's the 26th.
Oh, so that's the 26th.
Now, we don't just give this out willy-nilly.
Obviously, this is only given out to people who are in need.
Okay, that one's coming up.
We'll look at the date because it's the 12th here.
We've got a couple of months.
Right, so this is the 12th on there.
So what else have we got?
I've got 11th.
I've got 12th.
12th, 11th.
Oh yeah, no good.
No good.
You can't give it to animals either because of the enzymes in it, okay.
It can cause mad cow's disease.
What's that?
What's the correct term for it?
Crouch yackle disease, isn't it?
I think.
That's 11th.
That's a 12th.
That's a 26th.
But he's got a dent.
Let's get him out.
Oh god, he's got two dents now.
Second 26th.
That's a 26th.
That can go right at the back.
That's 11th.
Second 26th.
Because what we don't want is him going out.
I'd rather just give them out willy-nilly.
We do willy-nilly when the dates are coming up.
20th and second 26th.
These ones, I usually give two because they're smaller.
That's a 26th.
That's a 12th.
No, that's a 25th.
Yeah, but that's a 12th.
First of the six, 25th.
That's gone, isn't it?
See?
One of them got mixed up.
It do happen.
20th of the second, 26th.
Another 26th.
Oh yes, yes, I can get three.
Three of these.
Second 26th.
Right, here we are.
So we've got them up there.
So we then we had the 12th, didn't we?
28th of the 12th.
When we moved in, see it was quick get everything on the shelf.
And then we need to go through it now.
25th.
Oh gosh.
Oh, that's a twiff.
That's a twiff.
That's a twiff.
What's a twiff?
Right.
That's a 12th.
And there are 11th.
Right, okay.
There we are.
Right, so we need to give up the 11th first, guys.
Okay, right.
So what else have we got?
This can go on the baby section.
10th, 26th.
7th, 26th.
A few rusks.
Lovely.
What's this milk?
11th, 26th.
7th of the 11th.
31st of the 8th.
25th that's gone.
Yeah, that's where we moved, look.
See we...
If we hadn't have moved, we probably would have managed these a bit better.
But we were in the middle of the move.
We needed to get it to black while we had that.
Oh my God.
It's not smashing.
It's...
My money is on the... my change is on the chair.
My keys were sitting there.
So it's 26th.
Here we are then.
So...
Keep that shelf now just for the baby milk.
Some stuff.
Because it's a bit mixed up.
29th of the 12th.
25th.
Oh, we got two of them then.
Yeah, that one's coming up, innit?
Right, yeah.
So we'll want them gone by then.
So about November get them out the front and start pushing them to get them gone because I'd rather them be used.
If you want to donate baby milk, you can.
Make sure it's not dented.
Make sure it's not opened.
If you're buying it as well.
And the rest of it.
But we need to do a shop.
Because we're very low.
That's 26th.
That's gone.
I might have that for dinner.
11th... when is that?
11th 25th.
So that's gotta go.
So let's put them to one side.
That's the 12th 25th.
That's gotta go soon.
So we'll put that there.
This is probably ours, is it?
I would have thought.
2022.
What?
I don't know where that's come from.
2022.
Put that over there.
I'd probably drink that.
2026.
Right.
27 on that one.
26.
Needs to be written on the front as well.
26.
26.
10th 25th.
So that's gotta go.
So I might put those... get a bag ready for somebody to come and take.
Because we don't want them running out.
See?
7th 26th.
That one.
11th 26th.
We need to do a shop.
We're really low.
We give a lot of it away because it was coming up to date when we were up in Blackwood.
We said, oh, let's give it away because rather than...
That's a dented one.
Rather than carry it all the way down here and have to give it away.
25th.
Gotta bag all this together, I think.
12th 25th.
12th 25th.
We need to go clean to...
There's 27, but that's dented so...
26 that one.
26 on him.
Right, so they are out of date.
That's a little box that we were using for the keys and stuff.
Right, so what have we got here now?
Right, that one's gotta go.
That one's gotta go.
Quite a bit gotta go.
That's alright, that's what we were here to do.
6th 26th.
7th 25th, that's gone over there.
That's well and truly gone, kind of that one.
I can't remember what date did we move.
The 10th 25th, so put him at the front.
September 26th.
September 20th.
25, we've got 26 or 25?
25.
Right, so this is very short dated so it's gotta go this week.
November
26th.
We bought these a while ago, fine.
There you go.
There you go.
Come on.
Come on.
Come on.
That's fine, we know now that we need to do a decent shop.
Don't we?
We just give those out now.
People want those because they're strong.
We just give them out to any of our customers.
But they won't be used for the food bank.
I want these toiletry boxes on there.
That's one of my signs.
I try not to crease my signs that there was a couple in Pontypool really creased up.
Very expensive to buy the signage.
I try not to crease them up guys.
Right, what have we got in there?
Sanitary ware?
I don't think there's any more food unless it's on a lower shelf.
Oh gosh.
What's down there?
No.
Right, so what I want is all the food on the one.
So I think we're gonna need food for that on there.
We're gonna need to leave that.
And what we don't want to see is this.
Is stock on the same shelves as the food bank.
Because health and safety will be like, oh you can't have...
You can't have an inanimate object next to something.
It might be eaten.
That's in a box and sealed.
Right, so these need to be stacked better guys.
Because we need...
I've still got this giveaway that I'm being collected guys.
I'm gonna have to put it back on if it don't get collected this week.
Let's have a look.
These were off...
I want to say people.
Is it Pobble?
They had a massive grant.
So they helped out smaller people.
And a lot of these have come off them.
And some have come off the council as well.
All these people who say the council don't support us.
The council could shut us down tomorrow.
But they don't because they support us.
They support us a lot more than you see.
This is what made me laugh the other day.
Like when they went on about Torfaen council, right?
Well, I think they forget that they're mothers and parents.
And we've helped everybody we can.
We help as many people as we can.
Regardless if they're in full-time work and where they work.
And this is what they don't seem to understand.
Is the people that we're helping are mothers.
And mothers want us here.
Mothers don't dislike us.
Only the ones that we refuse to help are the ones that dislike us.
And there's a reason why we refuse to help them.
It's not, you know, I wanted this shelf, didn't I?
For these big boxes.
They won't fit on that, will they?
With all the toiletries.
Because the problem is with the toiletries, there's so many of them.
Kindness in Pontypool, don't we?
And you can't have the toiletries on display in Pontypool.
Oh God, we'll have every Tom, Dick and Harry in asking for a bloody shower gel.
This is why, like I always wanted it.
So that you could come in, pick up your five items.
Just come to me and say, where's your bag?
I've got five items.
This is what I've got Jane.
Blah, blah, blah.
And off you go.
That's why I wanted to do it.
To take the stigma out of it.
But health and safety said no, we can't do that.
They're not allowed to touch it.
Because you could have anybody touching it.
And anybody messing with it.
So I was like, alright, okay.
But this is why I think a lot of other food banks have it locked away.
Because of the free loaders.
We've had one or two already in Cuffinligo.
I want this, I want that.
And we're like, you don't qualify for it.
You know.
The first couple of weeks we were here.
We had them all in here, fair play.
Housing guards threw a few out.
We had them all in here.
They were like, really trying it on.
And they were like, no, out, out.
And that's really, you know, we needed it.
Because they're not in here.
It's a free load.
It's here for mothers who are in need.
Oh my god, these are my legs.
My legs coming out my ears, literally.
So I need a tripod.
I didn't have one in Pontypool.
Probably sold it now, I don't know what's the trouble.
I need a tripod per shop.
So I don't have to carry it round with me.
And we need to keep it there, right on it.
James, don't touch.
Like I do with a Hoover.
James, don't touch.
Removing the filter will cause sudden death.
Here we are.
Right.
Will I get...
Because I think I got a third box.
Yeah, I think I will get a third box on there.
So that's brilliant, isn't it?
That's brilliant.
Hang on, put it down again, guys.
Yeah, because I'm going to need that other shelf, for the food.
When I do a food shop now, all the rice and all is going to have to go on there.
We've got quite a few...
Like that shelf down there, I don't think it's the right stuff on there.
It needs to be nappies.
But look, when I asked the girls to do it, they were under 18.
They put that on there.
Whereas if you've sacked them, you'd get more on there, wouldn't you?
Who left them ones out when we got rid of them ones first?
Another sanitary, the incontinence ones.
But like the business stuff, needs to be on this shelf.
It needs to be away from everything else that we're doing.
Which it makes sense, I suppose, doesn't it?
But what's happened is, it's all got a bit messed up in this one.
But we'll get it sorted.
Oh, they're not laminated.
Why the hell have they got through the thing?
How have they got past my mother without being laminated?
That's the sum up thing.
Oh, extension need.
We'll be looking for an extension need for here.
There's too much stock on here now.
We've got sorted now.
Oh, it's my Medusa mirror from Blackwood.
The amount of people who wouldn't look in that.
Put it up on the wall, we will.
They wouldn't look in it.
Right, there's my cap.
With my Horlicks I found.
Right, so what we've got there, we've got a couple of blades for things.
Right, let's put the sanitary stuff now.
Because they need to be able to come by the door and they need to say what they want, you know.
But it needs to be laid out better.
That's alright, because we were just moving in with me, you know.
It's just the way it goes and, like I said, we know when we have new starters.
We've got to learn.
And I've still got my Cochlearne, you give me?
My Marilyn Monroe.
That's going to go up in here, that is.
Right, let me move my signs over.
And my giveaway.
I'll have to put it back on, do another one, guys.
Don't participate if you can't collect.
Because he does say that on the sheets.
Right.
There we are.
Leanne gave us this clock.
We'll put it up in here somewhere.
Don't sell it, because he's not up yet.
And then this is pet food, obviously.
Watch now, they'll all be coming in.
Oh, we've got any pet food, we've got any pet food.
No, bugger off.
It's got mothers that have pets that are struggling.
It's for children to keep their pets.
We haven't quite launched our pet food bank, as well as I'd like it, but I need more volunteers now, guys.
Because, like, I got donations to go through.
I'm stuck in here and I'm sorting the food bank.
But this is the priority.
I spied a few out-of-dates yesterday as I was going past, and I was like, this has got to be my priority today.
In making sure that everything is tidy.
Unsorted.
That one looks a bit funny.
Too squashed.
Oh, that one's blown.
If they've blown like that, that means they're off.
They've got a perforation and they're off.
that's why you've got to be careful, see.
They'd be better off left in boxes.
And then they wouldn't get so damaged.
A bit of rabbit food there, or guinea pig.
Right, so they're no good.
They're quite a bit of a no good pet.
But I'd rather be They were in date, those peach slices, but they were damaged.
So I might eat those for lunch rather than bin them, but I would check them first.
If it's like out-of-date or damaged, we offer it out to volunteers first anyway.
Baby cream.
It's very good baby cream, nice from Tesco.
We bought that.
I guess some more of that, I think.
But what's that?
Pads.
They look like to me.
Right, let's have a look in here.
I've got a lady doing collections tomorrow around Caerphilly, if we've got donations.
She's coming in today.
She's starting with us.
She'll need to take a picture before they pick up by your door, you know, without your dress involved.
You don't need to be in it, but it'd be nice if you were, because it's always nice to have pictures of our followers.
Etc.
But you don't need to be in it, but it's so that they've got proof while they've picked up.
That'll be the next thing then.
The haters will be like, well how do you know they picked that up?
Because most people, unlike the haters, are decent people.
Unlike the haters, they're the only ones that ever, you know, point out the illegal things that could be done.
Have you noticed?
They know all the tricks of the tree, don't they?
What's that now?
That's yeah, that's something to do with feet.
That's a spray for the shop.
That's just an overflow of nappies.
I'll move them yet.
A couple of BB items.
Can't have the BB items on show.
Like this, they'll be in it.
It's why some of them lock them away, I think.
We know we're too trusting.
We've had this before.
We're too trusting of people and too innocent of people.
But that's because we're honest.
We're honest people.
So we expect everybody else to be honest.
See?
So we know that.
There we are.
That's a nice one.
Should be up to the baby, so if I can't reach them, I've got a couple of breast pads here.
Let me put that over there, because they look like maternity pads, don't they?
I've been watching HS Tikitoki online, because obviously Louis Farouk have been over there, trying to ruin his life, as Louis Farouk does.
He's a good journalist, but HS Tikitoki is obviously live 24-7, isn't he?
I don't know, he just permanently walks around on his phone, doesn't he?
I think that's just all some sods in there that need to be sorted now.
We're getting there slowly.
That's nappies, nappies, nappies.
Work-related stuff.
These are all come over here, aren't they?
We've got plenty of sanitary stuff, but if you've got stuff you don't want, drop it off, because we usually give out two or three of these.
Nothing more degrading than having to come in to someone and say, oh, I need sanitary stuff, I can't afford it.
But I can't have it out on the shelf, because anybody will take it, see?
That's the problem I've got.
People will just take your left, right and centre, and all our funding will go...
and plus the council have told me not to, they want it anyway.
They've done it to protect us, I think.
They've said, well, this is what will happen, you'll have every freeloader in the country.
But yeah, I've noticed the pantry and the snug, it's all behind doors and stuff, isn't it?
That's because they're selling it.
They don't want anybody to take one single thing.
We just don't want it to be depleted, because we've got so many people who need the help.
That's why we don't want to put it out there, because I wouldn't want to put all these sanitary items out there.
They all go today by the freeloaders, just for the sake of having them.
And then I get somebody in tomorrow and I haven't got a step from.
You know.
I noticed a few of the grandmothers didn't take us up on the £10 offer, did they?
Yesterday.
When I said, oh, you can buy the nappies and you can have £5 worth of clothes, and you can have three items from the food, but you've got to pay £10.
I noticed that.
You can't, anyway.
It's got to be the person out there who you're helping under data protection, so you can't just turn up and start asking for stuff.
For other people.
Right, so I've got quite a bit that's out to date, and I've got quite a bit that's due to go.
So I've got that food bank that's due to go soon.
So whoever comes in next will have more than five items, because they'll have them, and then this one will be out to date, and we'll see what we do with that now.
Right.
I'm going to go sit down now, and regroup.
