Answering another question that I am frequently asked:-
๐ผ If you believe that your children (or yourself) may have spectrum traits then contact the child's GP and tell them you want to be referred. They will need to fill out a referral form. Do not take no for answer- this is your right and the child's right to have any referral you like under the NHS. The waiting is is 18 months - 2 years.
๐ผThis is also the same with the Incontinece service - once the child is diagnosed then if you require nappies as inconvenience os often a life long neurological system of being on the spectrum (and other causes). They have to supply you with Incontinece wear and at least carry out an incontinece assessment as part of their dudilgence.
๐ผOnce you have the diagnosis then you need to contact the LEA and the education provider to put in place what is needed to support the child through education and training. Disabled student allowance to meet their needs through education is available to the education provider right the way through to University.
๐ผ If you or your children have been diagnosed with anything off the spectrum list including dyslexia contact the optician and ask them to refer you or the child for a colourimetry eye sight test even if you have 20/20 vision. Colour filters often help the brain and eye coordination and understanding.
